The
Trust runs programmes of diagnosis outside of its normal on-site
screening programme. |
| In
2000 the Trust ran a Prostate Cancer screening campaign by
offering free check-ups to workers in the 50+ age group and
in 2001 the offer was extended to workers and retired members
in the 50 - 69 age group. Both campaigns were quite successful
with a take up rate of approx 26%. |
In
2002 the Trust offered free GP check-ups to members in the
18-49 age group. Take up here was approx 30%. Both of these
campaigns have now finished. |
| Commencing
in June 2006, the Trust will offer free Colon Cancer test
to workers who visit our on-site screening clinics. The test
involves a small kit which the worker takes home. Fasces samples
are placed in a special screen and returned to Tallaght Hospital
in a freepost envelope. If the lab results show that further
investigation is warranted then the Trust will pay for the
member to undergo a Colonoscopy procedure to the value of
300 Euros. This involves an examination of the rectal passage
under anaesthetic, using a camera. |
If
the member is found to have bowel or colon problems then he/she
will be put into treatment under the normal public health
programme. The Trust undertakes to pay for the initial test
and colonoscopy only. |
During
2006 it is hoped to commence a programme of diabetes testing.
Final details have yet to be worked out but it is intended
to run this programme in conjunction with Prof John Nolan
St. James hospital. Further details will be posted on this
site as they arise.
