| COLON
CANCER |
| Colon
cancer is curable if caught early. Nevertheless there are
about 1700 people in Ireland diagnosed every year. |
The
test is simple and requires the worker to take home a small
kit. At home the worker will take three small stool samples
and place them on specially prepared slides over a three day
period. The slides are then returned to the lab in Tallaght
Hospital in a prepaid envelope. |
Back
in the lab the samples will be examined for the presence of
blood. If this is found the worker will be offered a colonoscopy,
which is a surgical procedure to examine the colon and bowel. |
Workers
who are offered a colonoscopy will be required to travel to
Tallaght Hospital by appointment. CWHT will pay for the surgical
procedure and as far as possible this will be carried out
on a Saturday. Workers will be responsible for their own travel
costs. The average cost of a colonoscopy is 500. This is a
very valuable offer to building workers. |
Workers
who cannot participate in our on-site screening clinics can
still avail of the free Colon Cancer test Click here to register. |
